Kathmandu : Miss Mongol Nepal is about beauty and brains with culture. Twenty-two-year old Anista Gurung proved that she is that entire package as she was crowned Miss Mongol Nepal 2014 on April 5 at the Nepal Academy. Displaying her Gurung culture through her traditional attire and actions along with intellect, the pretty lass impressed the judges.
The aspiring dentist went through the introduction round, question and answer round among the Top 10 and the million-dollar question put up by one of the judges — singer Dhiraj Rai — in the final showdown: “What particular qualities would you look for in your friend who knows you and why?”
Her winning answer was: “Friendship may start instantly, but it takes time to grow. A true friend is someone who is loyal, honest, selfless and forgiving; someone who can make you laugh in times of sorrow; who willingly appreciates you and accepts you for who you are; who challenges you to be a better person and encourages you through thick and thin. Try to incorporate these things in yourself. Go beyond and be a better friend. Friends play a role as your second family. After all, friend in need is friend indeed.”
She also won a cash prize Rs 100,000 along with other perks. This Contestant #1 indeed remained ‘the number one’ among 26 contestants. Giving the winner neck-to-neck competition were Annie Gurung and Bibasana Dhenga, who were the first and second runners-up respectively. They both won Rs 15,000 each.
The girls glammed up the show in their gowns and traditional dresses. They gleamed in Magar, Rai, Tamang, Gurung and Newar dresses and matching traditional jewelleries while showcasing a part of the culture they represent. And they were judged by a panel of judges which included Miss Mongol Nepal 2012 Sapana Roka Magar, fashion choreographer Jayan Subba Manandhar,
beautician Kamala Shrestha along with Rai.
Adding the needed entertainment factor was dance and song performances. Rajesh Payal Rai was one artiste who crooned his hits like Darshan Namaste.
